Snacks for School

The USDA has determined that the following food items may NOT be served to children in a public school setting. There will be no exceptions to this rule. If you send one of these items to school with your child, it will be returned to you. This applies to all snacks, parties, special days, and fieldtrips.

Not Allowed:
Any type of carbonated beverage
Popsicles
All candy (except chocolate)
Chewing gum
Cough drops
Candy coated popcorn

The following is a suggested list of acceptable snacks and treats.

Allowed:
Beverages:

Fruit juices, fruit smoothies, milk (non-fat or low-fat, plain or flavored), Approved sparkling or plain water

Low-fat Grain Foods:
Mini-bagel bread sticks, Graham crackers, English muffin, Mini rice cakes, flavored Fig newtons, Low-fat fruit or grain muffin, Dry cereal individual servings(3 oz.), Animal crackers, soft pretzels, plain or flavored pretzels, Low-fat sports bars, Baked tortilla chips with salsa, Vanilla wafers

Frest Fruits and Vegetables:
In-season fresh fruit, carrots, broccoli, cauliflower with low-fat dip or salad dressing

Additional Treats:
100% fruit snacks, Frozen low-fat yogurt, Low-fat pudding (plain or as a parfait), Yogurt splits (yogurt, banana with toppings or parfaits), Low-fat sandwich cookies (chocolate or vanilla), fruit bars, Fat-free popcorn, Beef jerky (95% fat-free), peanut butter and crackers, Low-fat string cheese, Fruit, nut and/or grain trail mixes

Additional Items Not Restricted by Foods of Miniman Nutritional Value (FMNV) Policy:
Ice cream, cookies, candy containing chocolate, cupcakes, nuts, cakes, chips, non-carbonated beverages including punch, lemonade, dips, Kool-Aid.

REMINDER OF "PARTY" RULES

Only ONE party per year and that is at Christmas

Candy allowed 3 times per year: Christmas, Valentines Day & End of Year

No cupcakes at all during year except on birthdays and should be served at snack time
