An Interview with Mrs. Carolyn Florus

"I have been blessed with thousands of students and peers who have made me a better person, but I still believe that
 everyone is responsible for their own behavior."

Question: How long have you been teaching? Answer:  39 years.
Question: What do you do differently to impact student learning? Answer: I try to care - the older I get the better I get at this.
Question: How has teaching impacted your life? Answer:  It has made me more compassionate.
Question: What made you decide to become a teacher? Answer: My dad was diagnosed with TB and I had a job offer, but I  wasn't going to do it for long, maybe two years.
Question:   Have you ever taught anything else or anywhere else? Answer:   Channelview High School for five years and Johnson Jr. High for 11 years. I have taught manual and electric typewriters, Office Procedures, Typing II, Accounting and Coordinated Vocational Academic Education, and Office Duplicating Practices.
Question: Where do you see education going in Texas? Answer: Down the toilet because we let politicians dictate rules instead of educators.
Question: Have you ever wanted to pursue another profession besides teaching? Answer:   No.
Question: What is your philosophy on student learning? Answer:   You have to set your boundaries and guides tempered with love.
