An Interview with Mrs. Carolyn Florus
"I have been blessed with thousands of students and peers who have made me a
better person, but I still believe that
everyone is responsible for their own behavior."
| Question: | How long have you been teaching? | Answer: | 39 years. |
| Question: | What do you do differently to impact student learning? | Answer: | I try to care - the older I get the better I get at this. |
| Question: | How has teaching impacted your life? | Answer: | It has made me more compassionate. |
| Question: | What made you decide to become a teacher? | Answer: | My dad was diagnosed with TB and I had a job offer, but I wasn't going to do it for long, maybe two years. |
| Question: | Have you ever taught anything else or anywhere else? | Answer: | Channelview High School for five years and Johnson Jr. High for 11 years. I have taught manual and electric typewriters, Office Procedures, Typing II, Accounting and Coordinated Vocational Academic Education, and Office Duplicating Practices. |
| Question: | Where do you see education going in Texas? | Answer: | Down the toilet because we let politicians dictate rules instead of educators. |
| Question: | Have you ever wanted to pursue another profession besides teaching? | Answer: | No. |
| Question: | What is your philosophy on student learning? | Answer: | You have to set your boundaries and guides tempered with love. |
