Ranch Rodeo Events Rules

RANCH BRONC SADDLING/RIDING- each team will draw a bronc that will have a halter and lead rope. When the announcer signals, the gates will be opened and the horses must be lead across a designated line, saddled, and then ridden to a second designated line. NO SADDLE BRONC RIGGINGS ALLOWED. ONLY Ranch/working saddles and gear allowed. First one across the line wins. Ride will also be scored, so in the unlikely event of a tie, the score will be the tie breaker.

RANCH BRANDING- out of a herd of cattle, announcer will call a number of an animal to be roped, and drug(two back legs only) or brought to a simulated fire and branding area. Time starts when the rider crosses the line to rope the animal, then it must be mugged or heeled to the ground, and a specific area marked as the brand. Time will be called when the runner puts the branding iron back in the fire (bucket). All other cattle must be held in back of the line, or a time penalty will be added (see Gen. Rules).

TEAM DOCTORING- announcer will call a designated animal, to be cut out across the line and caught, head first and then heeled. Once the animal is flat on one side, it must be marked with an X on either hip. Time starts when the first man crosses the line, stops when marker throws his hands up. All ropes must be off animal before time will be called. All other cattle must be held in back of line, or a time penalty will be called.

WILD COW MILKING- One designated cow is cut from the herd, and roped after it crosses the line. Two members dismount and mug the cow while a third member attempts to extract a small amount of milk in a coke bottle. Once this is accomplished a runner then must cross a line at the opposite end of the arena where the judge will be and show the judge the amount of milk. Time starts when cow crosses the line to be roped, stops when the runner crosses the line nearest the judge. Judge must be able to pour an amount of milk from the bottle. All other cattle must be held in back of line or time penalty will apply.

General Rules:

Teams will consist of 3-4 members. Alternates may be run in the case of an emergency, but alternate must compete in all remaining events. A General Liability Release form must be signed by all members and turned in no later than the day of the event.

No one is allowed to compete on more than one team.

Each team must have a designated "boss"(captain), and this person will be the only one allowed to address judges over a dispute.

Dress code will be enforced while team is in the arena- cowboy hat, long sleeve shirt, and boots. Matching shirts are encouraged but not required. Chaps, chinks, and any other traditional western dress are encouraged but not required.

Only team competing will be allowed in the arena.

All disputes will be settled by judges/committee officials. All disputes must be called for and settled before the next event starts.

All decisions of judges/committee officials will be final.

Stock numbers and working order will be drawn for.

Any abuse/unnecessary roughness will result in a disqualification (ex: dragging an animal by the neck while it is down).

There will be a 3 minute time limit placed on all events, excluding penalties.

Time penalties will be imposed as follows:

Cattle crossing the line that are not designated to be penned or worked:

5 seconds per animal.

If more than 5 head cross the line that shall constitute a loss of herd, and result in a no time/disqualification from event.

All roping and herding must be done from horseback.

If rope is dropped by one team member, another member may pick it up to continue with the event. Only the actual throw and catch must be done from horseback.

No tripping allowed. This will result in a no time.

All teams must participate and receive a time in each event to be eligible for the jackpot. Team with overall fastest time wins.

All ropes must be removed before runners cross the line.

After an animal is cut out from the herd and crosses the line to be caught, it can be caught wherever, but it must cross the line once, and it must be worked in the designated area.

All horses must have a negative Coggins papers as per TAHC Rules.

ALL team members should be on the grounds at least one hour before events is to start to get draw and performance order, and be clear on all rules.

Professionalism and sportsmanship is expected to be exhibited at all times. Any other conduct unbecoming of these will result in a disqualification of the team from the event, and possibly the entire function, WITHOUT ANY REFUNDS.

In the event of a tie, showmanship, dress code, and the fastest time in a predetermined event will be voted upon by the judges/committee to determine an overall winner.

NO ALCHOHOLIC BEVERAGES ALLOWED IN ARENA, BACK PENS, OR WAITNG AREAS. THIS WILL RESULT IN A FORFETURE OF ENTRY FEES, AND OR WINNINGS. THIS IS A PUBLIC SCHOOL FUNDRAISING FUNCTION, PLEASE UNDERSTAND THAT THERE WILL BE STUDENTS, MINORS AND PARENTS PRESENT.
