Dayton High School Night School (DAEC) is an accelerated alternative school
designed for students who, for various reasons, have not been successful
in a traditional high school program. The curriculum is self-paced so that
students can progress at a more rapid rate than is possible in a regular
high school setting. Students must be self-directed and able to work
independently to succeed in this program.Students at DAEC must demonstrate exemplary behavior and maintain appropriate attendance. No more than three absences are allowed each semester and disciplinary problems will not be tolerated. If a student accumulates more than three absences, a committee will determine whether the student may continue in the program. After being absent from school, the student must submit a written note by the parent/guardian to DAEC administrator prior to the next school day.![]() ![]() DAEC is a school of choice. All coursework is to be completed. Students must progress thought 10 lessons each week to remain in attendance. As students complete the requirements of a curse, they may proceed to the next course in the sequence and toward their course requirements for graduation. |

The main goal of the night school shall be to provide at risk students with an alternative school schedule to assist them in meeting graduation requirements and pass exit level TAKS to receive a High School Diploma. |
Students enrolled in the night school will be placed on minimum graduation plan. Students beginning freshman year 2004-2005 and thereafter, will be placed by committee decision on the minimum program in order to enroll in the nigh school program. | Dayton
night school is a privilege, DISCIPLINE INFRACTIONS
WILL NOT BE TOLERATED. A strict Zero Tolerance Policy will be
enforced. Students who do not comply with the rules and regulations in the DHSNS Policy and Procedures Manual, as well as DHS Student Code of Conduct will be removed from the night school program and placed back into the traditional day program. |

The night
school curriculum will be a software package called PLATO, that will address
all subject areas. The students will demonstrate progression thought curricula modules. PLATO courseware supports individualized instruction by providing immediate feedback when the learner answers a question. If the learner answers incorrectly in a tutorial or an application, PLATO courseware identifies common errors and steers the learner in the right direction. In accordance with local school district policy, a student in any grades 6-12 may be given credit for an academic subject in which he or she had prior instruction, if the student scores 70% on a criterion-referenced test for the application. |
Students
enrolled in the night school program will be required to meet TEA graduation
requirements. Students must earn at least 22 state credits to complete the
Minimum High School Program. Night school students are also required to pass
the exit level TAKS, they may not receive a diploma until this requirement
is met. Graduates of the night school program will be awarded the same type of diploma as Dayton High School students. Note that a Night School Graduate will not walk with the Graduating class in May or attend prom. |
