Purpose: To offer students a healthy learning experience and environment through music; to help them develop into aesthetic and empathetic human beings; to learn to work with a group; to help them develop insight and self-discipline; to offer vocal training, music theory, choral training, and studies in listening, observing, and imitation.
Description of Course: The year begins with the All-State process: Region Area Finalist, Area , and State auditions: Region, All-State. Christmas and Spring concerts are presented during the year as well as Thanksgiving presentation at the annual Community Thanksgiving Service. We also participate in UIL Solo and Ensemble and Concert and Sight-reading contests. We finish the year with the State UIL Solo and Ensemble Contest at the University of Texas in Austin. Rehearsals are held during the regular class period with extra rehearsals called as needed.
Awards: UIL jackets are presented to students who are four seniors. Region Choir members, and to those students who receive a first division on a State Solo or Ensemble.
