
A beginning course to investigate a variety of media, techniques, and subjects.
Explore the art elements (color, line, shape, value, and texture), apply the principles
of design (movement, proportion,
contrast, variety, rhythm, balance, repetition/pattern,
dominance/emphasis, and unity/harmony), understand and appreciate
self and others through art culture, art history, and different styles,
and to extend concentration in the process of drawing what the eye sees.
Includes individual work as well as group projects to develop composition awareness
and define space on a two-dimensional surface, create three dimensional objects,

notebook & sketchbook must be kept, written assignments and vocabulary.
A comprehensive art-history course to extend understanding of the basic
concepts and use of the art elements and application of the design principles,
to integrate and interrelate aesthetics, art criticism, art history, and studio production through
a chronological approach, to extend concentration with composition awareness, to
extend use of a variety of media, techniques, and subjects. Includes individual work as well as
group projects to develop composition awareness and define space on a two dimensional surface,
create 3-dimensional objects, outside projects and drawings to be turned in at specific intervals for criticism,
and a notebook & sketchbook must be kept, written assignments and vocabulary.
Art III and IV will provide advanced art students with the opportunity to
explore and pursue particular fields of interests. Individual student projects will
occupy a major part of the class time and outside work will be expected.
Experimentation with various art techniques and materials will provide a bases
for expanding the student's interests. Historical research involving great artists and their works
will be included. Emphasis is on the building of a portfolio, exhibition of works,
self-discipline, and quality of work. A notebook & sketchbook must be kept.
