Description
Introduces general accounting concepts, principles, and procedures;
emphasizes the need for financial records; provides the fundamental
equation and its application to accounting procedures, including the
basic steps of the accounting cycle, special journals and ledgers,
work sheets, adjusting and closing entries, special problems in the
purchase and sale of merchandise, notes and interest, depreciation,
accruals and prepaid items, payroll records, and personal income
taxes.

A continuation of BCIS 1; this course develops advanced
technology skills with applications to personal and business
situations. Office 2003 concepts are emphasized and covered in-depth.
Business topics such as accounting, corporate and personal finance,
marketing, and management are covered as well. Other technologies
such as telecommunications, presentation management, networking,
operating systems, emerging technologies, and advanced - level
skills are emphasized.
This course is an excellent choice in preparing students for
upper-level business courses in college where the applications used
in business studies is extensive, and all projects in this course
deal with business situations on a smaller scale.
The Dayton
High School Business and Technology department is set up as a
testing center through Certiport. Students enrolled in the BCIS II
are given the opportunity to test and become certified in Microsoft Office
2003. The levels of certification are in Office 2003 are:
Word - Expert, Excel - Expert, Access Core, and PowerPoint Core.

to the Java programming language; this is a hands-on course that
allows students to write problem-solving programs. Algorithm
process are taught to emphasize the importance of program
documentation techniques such as flowcharting and structure
charting. Conditional statements, arrays, methods, loops, file
processing, object-oriented design, GUI, and other structures are
covered.This is
a course that exposes students to logic and problem-solving
techniques. It helps students to understand how programming and
logic is applied to business situations by writing math, accounting,
and financial programs as well as a variety of other business
engages applications. |

continue working and writing programs using the Java language;
however, more advanced concepts and techniques are covered. Students
will be exposed to the same elements as in Computer Science I, but

Inheritance and Exception Handling, Array-Based Lists, Linked Lists,
Recursion, Stacks, Queues, and Searching and Sorting Algorithms are

This course provides a basic understanding of HTML, Java Script, Web
page design, networks, the Internet and Intranet. Students will
learn to use Dream Weaver as a primary web-building tool and some FrontPage 2002
will be used as well to create web pages for a variety of
business entities. Standardization web site criteria and trends will
be emphasized. Students will also gain knowledge in multimedia tools
and graphics-imaging software using Flash and Photoshop. The second semester provides an
opportunity to cover more advanced topics in dealing with forms,
CGI, and Java Script programming. Students in the Web Design class
are responsible for maintaining the High School web
site and designing new pages. |
