Suggestions/Questions:
1. Where does the money go that students’ pay for the
court ordered “Acting Responsible Class”? When
a student goes to court, there is a $50 amount that is part of the
fees. That $50 amount goes to the City of Dayton for paperwork and
administration costs. The $75 that is charged for the actual class
goes to Dayton ISD and into the general fund.
2. When a parent does not like what a teacher has said in
class to students, what should that parent do? As a parent,
you should always express your concern to that teacher, and then to
the campus administration.
3. Why don’t the students read more in the classrooms?
At the K-1 campus, Language Arts are formally taught for 2 hours and
15 minutes each day. 1 1/2 hours are in large group instruction and
45 minutes are in small group setting. Additionally, at-risk students
go for intensive instruction in reading for 20-45 minutes. Within
the Language Arts block is reading, writing, phonics, and spelling.
At some other campuses, sustained reading is implemented into their
routines. Parents need to encourage reading (for pleasure) at home
as much as possible. It is amazing what research indicates the increase
in student achievement and reading a set number of minutes per day.
