Substance Abuse Information and Resources

Dear Parent or Guardian,

As we are all aware, the pressure to use drugs, alcohol, or tobacco is very strong today. Often peer pressure increases when students say “no” because “friends” then try harder to persuade them to go along with the crowd.

Students who do not abuse substances show improved academic performance, test scores and higher graduation rates. Criminal activity is reduced, as well, and there is less absenteeism, reduced tardiness, and less insubordination.

Dayton ISD attempts to provide parents with valuable tools and resources that can make parenting easier. You can be the judge of whether this site is useful for your family.
The website www.TestMyTeen.com provides both parents and students with a socially acceptable excuse that can stop intimidation from pushy peers. Students can say “no” to drug experimentation by saying “my parents test me”.

TestMyTeen gives access to information and products useful for detecting drug, alcohol and tobacco use. Kits may be ordered and used in the privacy of your own home, at your discretion. A counseling referral service and a frequently asked questions portion of the site may also be useful to your family.

Additionally, since www.TestMyTeen.com has a revenue sharing program, a portion of the proceeds from your purchases goes to support our school’s substance abuse education program.

If you have questions or concerns, please contact me at rtepfer@daytonisd.net and I will respond as soon as possible.
