District At-Risk Counselor
(Crisis Counselor)
Randa S. Tepfer, MS, LPC
Please allow me to introduce myself…
As the At-Risk Counselor for Dayton I.S.D., I work in liaison with
staff, parents, and community professionals to provide a counseling
program which focuses on prevention and intervention of emotional
or behavioral problems that place students at risk of being academically
unsuccessful or dropping out of school prior to completion of their
high school education.
Some examples of these behaviors are harm to self or others through
violence or self-abuse, substance abuse, family and relational problems,
grief, trauma, depression, truancy and absenteeism, neglect or abuse.
Students are referred by DISD administrators, teachers, staff, parents,
or friends. Additionally, the student may self-refer. I then meet
with the student, and parents as appropriate, for brief counseling
and referrals to community resources. Students are informed of a counselor’s
legal and ethical obligation to maintain confidentiality as well as
the limits of the confidential relationship.
The At-Risk Counseling program is available for crisis situations
on every campus (PK-12) with students who are experiencing mental
health, personal, behavioral or academic problems.
